Microgrants for local mapping communities

Since 2017, Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team has supported local OpenStreetMap groups with Microgrants of up to $5,000 to help transform their communities through mapping. In 2019, we supported eight local communities who are using maps to address a diverse set of issues, from using making cities more accessible for disabled persons, to developing community-driven national disaster preparedness maps.

“The project has already had a noticeable positive impact on community cohesion. It has mobilized village youth to participate. In fact, during the community involvement/sensitization stage, the project saw very impressive representation not only of the youth, but also by the Chief and elders.”
